Homemade Dog Treats

For our last exchange, my freezer friends and I decided to do a side exchange of a pumpkin dish (tis the season!) Someone did muffins; another did cookies... I wanted to look for something different. And then I thought about the member of our family who never gets to benefit from our freezer exchange, Oreo - my 50 pound Border Collie/Cattle Dog. As a matter of fact, everyone in our freezer cooking group has a 4-legged friend in their household.  So checking out Pinterest I found the perfect recipe for the exchange; it contains pumpkin and can be stored in the freezer. (Ok, so you really can't eat it... well, you CAN, but you wouldn't want to!)

Just 3 ingredients and these homemade dog biscuits came together so nicely. Bake long enough to dry them out and then cool and store in the freezer.  Oreo and his friends were so excited to get their own special treats after our monthly gathering.

Homemade Dog Treats
1/2 cup Natural Peanut Butter
1 cup 100% Pure Pumpkin Puree, canned
1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour (plus a little more if needed)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, stir together peanut butter and pumpkin. Stir in the flour 1/4 cup at a time just until dough is no longer sticky. (Using the Kitchen Aid stand mixer makes this a breeze.)
3. Roll the dough out between two sheets of parchment paper to 1/4″ thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the dough, then place on the parchment.
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Let cool. Store in an airtight container or freeze for up to 3 months.
